Skilled Worker Visa Student Visa
The UK Skilled Worker Visa is part of the UK’s points-based immigration system and is designed to enable skilled workers from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland to come to the UK to work. This visa route replaced the Tier 2 (General) Visa in December 2020.
To qualify for a Skilled Worker Visa, applicants generally need to meet the following requirements:
Job Offer: Applicants must have a job offer from a UK employer that is a licensed sponsor. The job offer must meet certain requirements, including being at the required skill level (RQF Level 3 or above), paying the relevant minimum salary threshold, and meeting other eligibility criteria set by the UK Home Office.
English Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate their proficiency in English by passing an approved English language test unless they are exempt (e.g. if they are from a majority English-speaking country or have completed a degree taught in English).
Salary Requirements: Applicants must be offered a salary that meets the minimum salary threshold for their occupation, which is set by the UK Home Office and varies depending on the specific job and location.
Skilled Worker Points: Applicants must score a total of 70 points under the points-based system. Points are awarded for having a valid job offer, meeting the English language requirement, and meeting the salary threshold, among other factors.
Maintenance Funds: Applicants may need to show that they have enough money to support themselves and any dependents during their stay in the UK, or that their sponsor will provide this support.
The Skilled Worker Visa allows successful applicants to live and work in the UK for up to 5 years initially, with the possibility of extending their stay. After a specified period of time, individuals may also be eligible to apply for settlement (indefinite leave to remain) in the UK.
Overall, the Skilled Worker Visa is intended to address the UK’s skills shortages by attracting skilled workers from around the world and enabling them to contribute to the UK economy and society.
