- Subclass 500 Student Visa:
The Subclass 500 visa allows international students to undertake full-time courses of study in Australia.
- Requirements for a Subclass 500 Student visa:
For an Australian student visa (subclass 500) application you must submit these documents:
- Apply for your visa at least 8 weeks (about 2 months) before the course starts.

Remember that your COE expires and it’s your responsibility to make sure that you have a valid COE during your stay otherwise your student visa may be canceled.

10. How Long Is a Student Visa Valid for in Australia?
A student visa in Australia is usually valid for up to 5 years. If your study course lasts less than that, your visa will be valid for the duration of your studies. In specific cases, you may be eligible for a visa extension.

The usual processing time for higher education is 4 months. However, A student’s visa application process may take three months to a year to complete. It will depend on what your study purpose in Australia is.
12. Can I Stay in Australia After My Student Visa Expires?
If you wish to stay longer than what your student visa allows, there are some other visa options available for you:
- Temporary Graduate Visa-subclass 485. This visa is available for students who held a previous student visa subclass 500 during the last six months and completed specific qualifications in Australia.
- Skilled Recognition Graduate Visa- subclass 476. This visa subclass is suitable for engineering graduate students of a reputable university.
13. Work With a Student Visa in Australia:
- With a 500-student visa, you can work for up to 40 hours every 2 weeks.
- You can start working when your course starts and not when your visa is issued.

15. Permanent Residency with a Student Visa in Australia:
- Students can’t get permanent residency with their student visas. In order to gain permanent residency, students should apply for a permanent skilled work visa. Otherwise, once the student visa expires students have to leave Australia.
16. Travel Abroad With a 500 Student Visa?
- Yes, international students with a visa 500 can travel freely if their visa is valid.
17. What if a Visa Application is Rejected?
- In case your visa application is denied then you have 28 days (about 4 weeks) to argue why your visa rejection should be revoked.
- The time limit for refusal will depend on what type of visa you applied for; you should find all the information on how to appeal in your rejection letter.
- Depending on the circumstances on why your visa was denied, you may be barred from receiving another visa for Australia.
